Robert C. Sibley Sr.
Robert C. Sibley was born in Mamaroneck on June, 16, 1905 son of Winthrop C. and Elizabeth Coles Sibley. In Rye his family lived at 567 Milton Road and were members of the Presbyterian Church.
Robert served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a major in the Signal Corps, serving in the European theater from 1942 to 1945.

The War Department announced today that Capt. Robert C. Sibley, 567
Milton Road, Rye, has been relieved of
active duty in the Army Signal Corps
after more than three years' service,
including nineteen months in the European Theater of Operations.
Captain Sibley received a direct
commission in the Signal Corps on
Nov. 5, 1942. He wears the European
Theater Ribbon with five battle stars
and the Meritorious Unit Plaque insignia. His last assignment was with
the 579th Signal Depot Company. Prior
to his entry into the Army, Captain
Sibley was employed by the New York
Telephone Company in New York City.

Before and after the war Robert worked in the repair service department of the New York Telephone Co.. He would retire in 1970 after 48 years.
An amateur radio operator. his call-letters were W2MVE. He was a member of the Rye Senior Citizens, and was formerly active, in the Civil Defense of Rye.
Robert was a past master of the Harrison Masonic Lodge, No. 1093 and secretary of the Harrison lodge for 19 years, he also was a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 789 in Harrison.. Robert C. Sibley, died Sunday August 1, 1980 at United HospitaL He was a Rye resident for 52 years, he was 75.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Gladys Olsen Sibley, of the home address; two, sons, Robert C. of Manchester, Mass, and Douglas D. Sibley of Pearl River, N.Y a sister, Mrs. Edna Drummond of Harrison; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
